Minutes
- Call to Order at
- Approve Minutes for September 12, 2007 Meeting: Minutes were approved as amended; Motion by John Lukacs, seconded by Matt Miller, motion passes.
- Conductor’s Forum:No conductors present.
- Treasurer’s Report: Not much activity over the holidays. The university was unable to provide information for the second quarter to include in the report. We supported the recruitment posters for the marching band. We have not receive the donut bill from KKY/TBS. Looking at a net income of $1919.61. We had a lot of registrations since the last meeting, so we’re up to a total of 570 members. Scholarships and endowments have not been updated yet, because we’re waiting on the university. Motion to approve Matt Miller, seconded by John Lukacs, motion passes.
- Committee Reports:
- Finance Committee (Peter Cubba): Nothing to
- Reunion Activities Committee (Rich Alder & Matt Miller):
- Symphony Band Reunion (Rich Alder): Not much is new since the last meeting. Hill Auditorium may be a bit expensive but we are looking into talking to someone from the School of Music to facilitate getting the group in.
- Member Activities Committee (Linda Ridley): Concert and Symphony band reception is coming up. We would like to pass out the graduate membership flyers about joining the UMBAA. We will also want to bring the
- Communications Committee (Kristen Acton): Not much to report, just want to set up a meeting to discuss the future of the MFanfare and its budgetary requirements. We’ll have more information at the next
- Governance Committee (Matt Pickus):Nothing to
- By-law Revisions – Complete by May 21, 2008.
- Ensembles Committee (Pete Larson): Sheri Moore set up a survey about starting a concert band, which is something that we would all like to see put to use. We’ll need the different committees to meet up and talk about these surveys so that everyone gets for example 4 short surveys spread out over a couple of months instead of one enormous survey. We are reluctant to give out other people’s email addresses to anyone because we don’t want them to get on spam lists. We are also looking into a location with the equipment. We will need chairs, stands and percussion
- Nominations Committee (Michael Lee): Tex is getting the committee together and will be contacting those whose terms are expiring this year
- Old Business:
- Henricksen Proposal: Motion to drop this proposal from the table as there is no new information to discuss. Motion by Matt Pickus, seconded by John Lukacs, Motion passes.
- Golf Outing 2008: Matt Miller is forming a team to work on this. There will be a meeting soon, check your email!
- New Business:
- Symphony & Concert Band Reception:
- Concert & Symphony Bands: Friday, March 7, 8 PM, Hill.
- There should be good attendance at this concert so we should have a good turnout for the reception. Make sure to bring the banner and graduate membership forms. We may also want to provide the forms during a rehearsal so that we can actually reach the seniors
- Mary Revelli Scholarship:
- Michigan Youth Ensemble: Monday, March 10 7 PM, Hill.
- We are already discussing this with Prof. Dorsey so that he can target some incoming students for this scholarship.
- Board Planning For Next 12 Months:January meetings will be intended in the future as a planning session for the upcoming year. Some of the ideas we discussed were:
- The creation of the UMBAA Concert Band.
- Susan suggested that we perfect some of the new things we started like the BBQ.
- Tex mentioned having complete control over the Member’s Only version of our website.
- Susan also suggested that the improvements to the MFanfare should be at the top of our list.
- Linda mentioned the regional associations that we would like to start up.
- Matt Miller plans to vastly improve the golf outing this year

- For the good of the Association:
- Jared Smith did not fail and get kicked off the basketball team.
- Dexter Community Band’s next concert will include Bora Bora by Scott Boerma.
- Fox gave good coverage to the marching bands during the bowl games.
- Season parking is being reassigned for football Saturdays.
